Funding Guidelines
Requests should be made at least 45 days prior to the time that funding is needed. They will be reviewed by a committee of the Foundation with support from the Department's training section.
Mission
The Fort Worth Police Officers’ Award Foundation exists to recognize and promote excellence on the part of the Officers of the Fort Worth Police Department through activities that include providing funding resources for training, performance recognition, promotional achievement and any other funding means, which promote this mission as determined by the Board of Trustees.
Project Funding
Awards are given to recognize excellence in the performance of duty and include the Officer of the Year, the Thomas Windham Community Policing Award, marksmanship awards, recognition of promotions, and numerous others.
The Foundation generally supports projects that recognize efficiency, skill and devotion of police officers as well as to further improve their professional training. The Foundation will not fund the purchase of equipment or provide for FWPD operations expenses.
All funding for the Foundation comes from the Fort Worth community, as it has from its inception. Through fundraising efforts, the Foundation raises the money it spends annually on police officers and their families. No telephone solicitation is ever used to raise funds. The Foundation is a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt entity.
Giving Guidelines
All funding requests will be submitted for approval by a majority vote of the Foundation’s Board of Trustees. The Trustees meet a minimum of six times a year and requests for funds will be discussed at the meeting closest to the receipt of the request. Funding requests are normally endorsed by the Police Chief and/or police administrators.
Naming Opportunities
Generally, there will be two occasions upon which the Foundation will award naming opportunities:
- Receipt of a financial contribution that funds a significant part of a project or event. (Please review our membership categories for further information.)
- Memorials or honorariums in recognition of a significant contributor(s).
Naming opportunities are subject to approval by a majority vote of the Foundation’s Board of Trustees. All financial contributions are not automatically designated for a naming opportunity.
