Request FundingAll awards and special recognitions presented by the Fort Worth Police Officers’ Award Foundation (the Foundation) are determined in several ways. Exemplary service awards are brought forward by the Chief of Police based on a rigorous nomination and review process within the department. The Thomas R. Windham Award is based on nominations from the community. Promotions, marksmanship awards and top Academy graduates are based on the accomplishments of individual officers.

Fees and expenses associated with extensive, specialized law enforcement training are evaluated on a case-by-case basis by the Foundation Board of Trustees. The training programs are endorsed and recommended by the Fort Worth Police Department’s (FWPD) training division.

In order to maximize the benefits derived from the Foundation, all awards and training allotments are coordinated with the FWPD. If, however, a police officer would like to bring forward an award, training program or other form of recognition to be considered by the Foundation, he or she may do so by contacting the Foundation’s office or calling
817-546-8169.

Requests should be made at least 45 days prior to the time that funding is needed. Requests will be reviewed by a committee of the Foundation with support from the Department's training section.
