Training Programs

Training ProgramsAs funding allows, the Fort Worth Police Officers’ Award Foundation honors requests by the administration and officers for assistance in defraying the costs of specialized training. The following is a brief description of training programs for which funding has been granted. An outline of awards that have been funded is available on the training awards page.

FBI National Academy

The FBI National Academy is a professional course of study that serves to improve the administration of justice in police departments and to raise law enforcement standards, knowledge, and cooperation worldwide. Participation is by invitation only, through a nomination process. Participants are drawn from every state in the union, U.S. territories, and over 150 international partner nations. Officers take undergraduate and/or graduate college courses in the following areas: law, behavioral science, forensic science, understanding terrorism/terrorist mindsets, leadership development, communication, and health/fitness.

Institute for Law Enforcement Administration

Founded in 1957, the mission of the Institute for Law Enforcement Administration is to provide advanced administrative education programs to the law enforcement community. ILEA serves as a major resource for advanced seminars and courses not offered by local or regional training academies and facilities. ILEA provides top-quality, academic programs including several one-week courses, the eight-week Management College and Center for Law Enforcement Ethics courses that prepare trainers to provide ethics-based programs in their own organizations.

Southern Police Institute

The Southern Police Institute is a division of the U.S. Department of Justice and College of Arts and Sciences, University of Louisville. It is an advanced education and training institute whose mission is to enhance the professional development of law enforcement practitioners. SPI provides educational and career development programs designed to challenge and to prepare law enforcement practitioners for the demands of today and tomorrow. Founded in 1951, its program of instruction has been grounded in the belief that law enforcement is a demanding activity requiring the highest level of professional preparation.
