Training Awards
As funding allows, the Foundation honors requests by the administration and officers for assistance in defraying the costs of specialized training. The following is a representative sampling of the training awards that have been made over the years.
- Southern Police Academy, tuition for nominated officers
- FBI Academy tuition assistance, $1,000 assistance grants for nominated officers
- Institute for Law Enforcement Administration tuition for as many as seventy-five officers per year
- Specialized training for bicycle officers.
If a police officer would like to bring forward an award, training program or other form of recognition to be considered by the Foundation, he or she may do so. Please visit the funding request page for more information.
During the annual meeting in November 2010, the following funding requests were approved by the board:
- Wicklander-Zulawski & Associates Interview and Interrogation Techniques Course for 40 officers.
- Training of two command staff for the FBI National Academy for a total of $2,000, or $1,000 per officer.
- The board voted to fund tuition for two officers, up to $1,000 each, to attend the Southern Police Institute. This award is to be made from the Davenport Fund.
In October 2010, the board approved a motorcycle training course at Northwestern University for one officer. And, in September, the board approved five officers to attend the Roanoke Police Motorcycle Training Competition.
From the minutes of the February 2010 meeting, the board approved a request to attend the FBI National Academy by the Chief Deputy City Marshal. It was noted that this would be the first time an individual from the City of Fort Worth’s Marshal Division would be sent to the FBI academy. Funding was approved for $1,000.
At the December 2009 meeting, the Trustees of the Fort Worth Police Officers' Award Foundation approved a request for The Traumas of Law Enforcement Training Program.
During the annual meeting in November 2009, the following funding requests were approved by the board:
- Training of two command staff for the FBI National Academy for a total of $2,000, or $1,000 per officer.
- The board voted to fund tuition for two officers, up to $1,000 each, to attend the Southern Police Institute. This award is to be made from the Davenport Fund.
From minutes of the annual meeting in November 2008, the board approved the following funding requests:
- Police Ethics and Leadership Course developed for up to sixty-five sergeants and civilian personnel and presented by Jim Dodson of Sam Houston State University
- $1,000 per officer attending the FBI Academy to assist with out of pocket expenses
- Tuition for two police officers to attend the Southern Police Institute
At the November 2007 annual meeting, The Fort Worth Police Officers’ Award Foundation board of trustees approved funding for the following programs:
- Training for up to sixty-five sergeants and civilian personnel through the Police Ethics and Leadership Course
- $1,000 per officer attending the FBI Academy to assist with out of pocket expenses
- Tuition for two police officers to attend the Southern Police Institute
From minutes of the annual meeting in November 2006, the board approved the following funding requests:
- Advanced Patrol Management training for up to seventy-five sergeants and/or lieutenants
- $1,000 per officer attending the FBI Academy to assist with out of pocket expenses
- Tuition for two police officers to attend the Southern Police Institute
In 2005, The Fort Worth Police Officers’ Award Foundation board of trustees approved funding for the following programs:
- $1,000 per officer attending the FBI Academy to assist with out of pocket expenses
- ILEA School of Police Supervision training for five sergeants.
- Tuition for two police officers to attend the Southern Police Institute
In March of 2004, the board of trustees voted to spend $1,000 for hotel accommodations for officers attending Bicycle School.
At their annual meeting in November of 2004, the foundation trustees approved funding for:
- $1,000 to assist with expenses for an officer to attend the FBI Academy
- $4,475 for ten officers to attend the ILEA Management program taught in Fort Worth
At the November 2003 annual meeting, The Fort Worth Police Officers’ Award Foundation board of trustees approved funding for the following programs:
- Tuition for two officers to attend the Southern Police Institute
- $1,000 per officer attending the FBI Academy to assist with out of pocket expenses
